Introduction
Villa Kubura is a four-bedroom colonial-styled villa inland from the lively beach town of Hikkaduwa on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. Surrounded by lush green working fields of rice - the name Kubura comes from the Sinhalese word for paddy fields – it expands behind whitewashed walls in a relaxing rural setting which offers an attractive alternative to the beach life within a comfortable drive. The premises includes a large garden, pool, the villa and an annex a few metres away. Keeping to its colonial architecture, Villa Kubura has a spacious veranda with a living area colourfully completed with antique furnishing complimented with traditional paintings in the background.
Accommodation
The four bedrooms are named after Sri Lankan flowers. Olu and Nelum are on the upper floor of the main building, while Namel and Araliya are housed in the annex.
Olu: Decorated in hues of pink, this spacious bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed, cable TV antique furniture and a wardrobe. The room has also a large balcony affording views of the beautiful verdant surroundings. Ensuite bathroom has h/w showers.
Nelum: This room is identical to Olu in terms of design, layout and furnishing which is across the hallway.
Namel: This ground floor room located in the annexe, metres from the main building is decorated in yellow. Well-appointed with a king-sized bed and complimenting furniture, Namel opens out to a terrace with views of the garden.
Araliya: On the upper floor of the annex, this room offers the same amenities as Namel but instead of a terrace opens out a balcony. This has separate entrance.
In-room facilities: A/C, overhead fans, cable TV and Wi-Fi.
Facilities
Villa Kubura offers a comprehensive menu. The Sri Lankan owners manage the kitchen and can prepare a variety of dishes including a traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry spread and western favourites. They can even organise a BBQ on request. The villa does not have liquor licence; guests can bring in their own alcohol or it can be purchased upon request. Guests can dine at the main dining area, by the pool or in the garden. The 33-metre long pool in front of the villa closer to the entrance resembles an ancient royal bath used by kings back in the day.
