Introduction

Villa Don Hendrick is a beautifully restored colonial villa with three additional bungalows villas nestled in strikingly spacious and caringly-tended tropical gardens. It lies in the charming village of Wagegoda, about 5kms inland from Sri Lanka's south coast resort of Tangalle. This serene and elegant property is a great place for guests on the hunt for peace and quiet as it welcomes only adults. Villa Don Hendrick is operated on bed and breakfast basis.

Accommodation

The main villa functions as a common living space for all guests while three separate little bungalows are scattered across the garden to provide individual accommodation units. As the bungalows gleam in white, their bright red roofs create the perfect contrasting effect. Though the façade looks like a classic colonial bungalow, the interior whisks you away to a colourful world of pretty trinkets and antiques.

The cosy bungalows are named after the sons of Don Hendrick Wickremaratne, the gentleman who built this bungalow around a century ago: Santeen, Henry and David. All three bungalows face the garden and are equipped with modern amenities inclkuding secretaire, minibar and safe. All bedrooms have overhead ceiling fans as the traditional architectural styles of the bungalows ensures natural ventilation, negating the need for A/C. Adorned in simple whites, the bungalows create a warm ambience. Each bedroom has a bed with a comfy pocket sprung mattress.

Santeen: This bungalow comes furnished with a two single four-poster bed fitted with mosquito netting. It has a private veranda to lounge in. In-room facilities include free Wi-Fi, minibar, personal safe and a writing desk. The ensuite bathroom is well-equipped with a rainfall shower, flushing toilet, bidet, hair dryer and premium toiletries.

Henry: Fitted with a four-poster bed (double) with mosquito net netting, this bungalow has a private veranda facing the garden. In-room facilities include free Wi-Fi, minibar, personal safe and a writing desk. The ensuite bathroom is well-equipped with a rainfall shower, flushing toilet, bidet, hair dryer and premium toiletries.

David: Furnished with a four-poster bed (double) with mosquito net netting, this bungalow also has a private veranda overlooking the garden. In-room facilities include free Wi-Fi, minibar, personal safe and a writing desk. The ensuite bathroom is well-equipped with a rainfall shower, flushing toilet, bidet, hair dryer and premium toiletries

Facilities

The infinity pool at Villa Don Hendrick is a feature of the charming garden. After a refreshing dip guests can head to the L-shaped sunbathing terrace. There are spacious pavilions where you can simply lounge away the hours. The Pond Pavilion offers relaxing massages.

As the villa is around 10 minutes from Tangalle beach, guests can easily enjoy a quiet day on the beach. On Wednesdays and Sundays, guests can visit the nearby local market. A lagoon close by is ideal for kayaking. Guests can also explore the area and its verdant paddy fields by cycling around.

The villa also organises various excursions for its guests upon request. The historic port city of Galle is 1.5 hours from the property. Trips can be arranged to other locations such as Ella, Yala, Kataragama, Sinharaja rainforest and Bundala National Park.

Why We Like It

No-children limitations are always controversial but tranquillity is assured in a modern boutique resort which compares favourably with the established masters

Location

Villa Don Hendrick is hidden in a little village just ten minutes away from the coastal town of Tangalle. Many well-known attractions including the historic Galle Fort are easily accessible from the villa.
