Villa Araliya

Introduction

Villa Araliya consists of stylishly-designed rooms and apartments set amidst peaceful gardens in Negombo. A sister property to Serendip Stone Bungalow in Kandy, it is the creation of its Sri Lankan owner, who personally designed the buildings and interiors. The wallawua-style trellis work, columns and verandas and terracotta and cement flooring is blended with touches of contemporary design. Villa Araliya has double rooms and apartments and kindness to animals is strictly adhered to here as the family is involved in the rescue and nurturing of homeless animals in Negombo. In-keeping with this philosophy, mainly vegetarian meals are served here, with the exception of fish. Palitha, the owner, also runs a popular Italian restaurant adjacent to the hotel. Eco-friendliness is emphasised, particularly the recycling of waste materials and conservation of water.

Accommodation

There are 12 a/c double rooms, each with a private balcony or veranda and ensuite bathroom with h/w shower. Each room is uniquely designed. Rooms are furnished either with antique four-poster beds or modem beds with cement bases. There are five apartments, of which three have a single bedroom whilst the others are two-bedroomed. These apartments are spacious and well-furnished. The ground floor has a living room with TV, dining area and well-equipped kitchen. For long staying guests (a period of over one month),the apartments can be rented on a self-catering basis with saucepans, crockery and cutlery all provided.

Facilities

The bar and restaurant overlooks the swimming pool, where Sri Lankan and Italian vegetarian dishes, fish and prawns are served. Meat is not served. Guests are also welcome at the main restaurant across the road, which has a pizza oven and prepares homemade pasta, and is open to the public. Villa Araliya serves a range of alcoholic beverages. Wi-Fi is available in all bedrooms, apartments, reception, and swimming pool area. Bikes are available.
