Introduction

Theva Residency is a 15-room boutique hotel on a small plot of land in the peaceful Hantane Mountain Range with breathtaking views across the Kandyan hills. Theva is split across four levels, offering luxurious accommodation, sumptuous fusion cuisine and a personalised service. The building has been constructed to provide breathtaking mountain views from all points of the hotel. Interiors are light and airy and contemporary in design, with a mix of glass, wood and polished cement floors. The rooms are infused with a splash of colour and hand-woven murals based around Kandy’s world-famous Perahara (Buddhist street festival or pageant). The reception and dining area is on the ground floor, a flight of stairs leads down to the swimming pool and the rooms are located on the upper floors. There is also an outdoor dining terrace with spectacular views of the Kandyan hills. Theva is ideally suited for couples and those seeking a quiet and restful holiday in the hills.

NOTE: Theva’s building design consists of many open spaces at varying heights as well as many stairways and is not recommended for young children or adults with mobility problems.

Accommodation

The 15 luxurious rooms are spread across three floors and all have scenic mountain views. The rooms are furnished with king or queen-sized beds dressed in fine linen and accentuated with silk soft furnishings. In-room facilities include a/c, overhead fan, flat screen TV with satellite channels, Wi-Fi, mini-bar, electronic safe, tea/coffee facility, hair dryer, 24 hour in-room dining and choice of newspaper.

Penthouse Apartment - The spacious top floor apartment is designed with glass right around, providing panoramic views, and has a bedroom furnished with a king-sized bed, living/dining area, bar, kitchen and butler service. The ensuite bathroom has a Jacuzzi. Extra bedding is provided on request. Guests can choose to cook their own meals, have the chef from the main restaurant come up and cook for them, or order from the in-house menu.

Suites - The three Theva Suites are tucked away in a private corner of the hotel, where they offer unparalleled valley views and a sense of space and privacy. The rooms have a Jacuzzi placed at an elevation overlooking the valley, giving you the chance to enjoy the view in unbeatable comfort.

Deluxe Rooms - These four rooms are designed to make the most of the stunning scenery. As with all the other rooms, the subtle Perahara-themed décor provides a hint of colour.

Superior Rooms - These seven rooms are categorised into Superior Mountain Rooms (with private balconies and spectacular mountain views) and Superior Ground Rooms (with private balconies and garden and partial mountain views). The Superior Rooms are spread across two floors, located below the reception and dining area close to the swimming pool. Room interiors are swathed in cool white from floor-to-ceiling: the only colour to be seen here are splashes of primary colours, adding just the right amount of vibrancy to the room. Each room is equipped with individual barbeque facilities, an outdoor bathtub and a lie-low, from where guests can savour the amazing views.

Facilities

Theva offers an interesting range of cuisine including Sri Lankan, middle eastern and western dishes, but the Chinese restaurant is the highlight. They also serve fresh fruit juices, home-made jams, ice cream and freshly baked bread. A pescatarian philosophy is followed, so seafood is available but no other meat is on the menu. Meals are served indoors in the restaurant, out on the dining terrace overlooking the hills or in the privacy of your own room. The open-air terrace or the poolside bar is ideal for sunset cocktails. There is also a deep blue infinity pool and a small sauna. Other facilities include room service, laundry service and doctor-on-call.

From adopting a meat-free menu and encouraging employees to increase their experience and knowledge through training to make their jams, bread and marmalades and efficient waste separation system, Theva Residency is actively making changes to reduce its negative impact on the environment.

Location

Theva Residency provides a peaceful holiday experience in the Hanthana mountains, 15 minutes away from Kandy town. The drive from Colombo’s international airport takes approximately 3.5 hours.
