Introduction

The Golden Ridge has steadily established itself as one of the finest in the Nuwara Eliya area. It is a contemporary hotel of 3-4 star standard with an attractive mix of traditional design and more modern reliance on such things as heavily-glassed public areas to make full use of its surroundings. Its excellent range of facilities also makes it an appealing option for those wanting a larger, more modern option as their base for exploring the distinguished old hill country town of Nuwara Eliya. Nestled on the outskirts of the highest town in Sri Lanka, Golden Ridge offers a luxurious mountain retreat more than 7,000 feet above sea level. Outstanding hill country views provide a relaxing setting and for the more active there are a wide range of facilities to more than match any nearby options. Now much improved and winning persistent praise after uncertain beginnings when it opened in 2019.

Accommodation

All rooms have wi-fi, safe, iron and ironing box, tea/coffee facilities, private pantry, minibar fridge, heaters. There is no a/c, but do not let that concern you because it simply is not necessary this high above sea level.

Deluxe (23 sqm): 49 deluxe rooms combine minimalist and elegant design with mountain views. Family rooms (38 sqm): 4 interconnecting rooms designed for families, featuring a master bedroom with a luxurious four-poster double bed, twin or double beds in the connecting room, and a shared bathroom.

Junior Suites (32 sqm): 3 junior suites, each offering breathtaking views of misty mountains. Four-poster double bed, a private pantry, and a rejuvenating Jacuzzi.

Mountain View Suites (64 sqm): 14 double and 5 twin mountain-view suites, each with double or walk-in rain shower, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a private pantry. /p>

Facilities

The Clovelly Kitchen is an all-day-dining restaurant with a modern English flavour using fresh local ingredients in classic international cuisine. Enjoy a cocktail at the outdoor bar, which has serene views.

The Sackville bar and grill is fully licensed and combines the intimate atmosphere of a retro Irish bar with wooden panels and sumptuous leather sofas with the modern advantages of floor-to-ceiling glass windows showcasing picturesque views. Pool table, flat-screen TV and live music.

The Taylor’s Lounge is a lobby lounge and bar with a more modern feel.

The Skyline Rooftop Lounge and Bar is a chance to dine amidst the fresh mountain air from a rooftop with breathtaking views. It has a small, attractive indoor area, too, for those cold nights.

Indulge in a private dining experience at The Pedro Heights, nestled at the area's highest point with a cozy atmosphere featuring a fireplace.

For the health and fitness orientated, there is a gymnasium, spa and heated indoor pool – essential for hill-country temperatures. Or spend time in the games room with table football machines, or the snooker room or kids’ club. The Latitude banquet hall comfortably accommodates up to 50 guests. There is also a boardroom and a meeting room. /p>

Why we like it

The hill country tends to offer smaller hotels and traditional highland bungalows, so a larger hotel winning good feedback in all areas is an important addition

Golden Ridge lies just to the north of Nuware Eliya in the Shanthipura hills, close to the road to Kandy.
