Thaproban Pavilion Resort

Introduction

Thaproban Pavilion Resort is a wonderful beachside holiday retreat, offering some of the best hotel facilities in Unawatuna. It offers 16 well-appointed suites, an in-house restaurant serving a range of international cuisine and a swimming pool. The architectural design takes inspiration from Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort, from the imposing façade to cobblestoned, narrow pathways and overhead bridges. Saffron-coloured walls and local art give a warm ambience. Thaproban Pavilion is the sister property of Thambapanni Retreat and Thaproban Beach House – both popular mid-range hotels on the bay. Guests at Thaproban Pavilion are welcome to use the Ayurvedic spa as well as dine at any of the restaurants at these two sister properties.

Accommodation

The 16 suites are categorized as Pool Pavilions; Rock Pavilions; Centre Pavilions; Ocean Pavilions and the Pavilion Residence.  All Suites have a/c, overhead fans, LCD TV with satellite channels, mini-bar, wifi internet, room service and laundry service.  Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.

Pool Pavilions (25 sq. metres):  These two suites are located by the swimming pool and open out to a private verandah and the pool terrace. Interiors are furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds.

Rock Pavilions (28 sq. metres): Set amidst natural rock boulders, these two spacious suites open on to private balconies with garden or beach views. Interiors are furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds and lounge chair or sofa bed that can accommodate a third person.

Centre Pavilions:  These four luxurious suites consist of a bedroom and a separate living room and have balconies with garden or beach views. Interiors are furnished with king-size bed or twin beds; and a sofa bed.

Ocean Pavilions: These four suites are more spacious and faces Unawatuna bay across the rocky headlands. Interiors are furnished with king-size bed or twin beds and a sofa bed.

Pavilion Residence (38 sq. metres): These four suites are situated at the beach front and has a bedroom furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds and a separate living area furnished with a sofa bed.  Pavilion Residences are spacious and well suited for families.

Facilities

Dine on Sri Lankan and international cuisine in the main restaurant or in the privacy of your own suite. Fresh seafood specialties and BBQs are also on offer. There are two swimming pools, one sea water and one fresh water, and pool terrace. There are plenty of watersports on offer on Unawatuna Bay including surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving during the season from December to April. Relaxing Ayurvedic massages are on offer at the sister property - Thambapanni Retreat which is just a short stroll away.

Why We Like It

A sports bar area with pool/darts, a gym and two salt-water pools offer entertainment if you are not in the mood to head out.

Location

Thaproban Pavilion Resort is at the far end of Unawatuna bay, still within easy walking distance to the beachside restaurants and cafes. The historic city of Galle is just 15 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours via the Southern highway.
