Thaproban Beach House

Introduction

Thaproban Beach House has a privileged position on the glittering Unawatuna Bay at the centre of a small and characterful strip of beach bars and restaurants. It is one of the favourite eating spots for a largely youthful crowd that is attracted to Unawatuna by its beautiful horseshoe bay and jumble of simple beach bars and restaurants. It offers comfortable rooms in a relaxed and rustic environment. The hotel is situated on three floors with the restaurant on the ground floor and all rooms located on the floors above. Thaproban is the sister hotel of Thambapanni Retreat situated on a hillock a few minutes walk away.

Accommodation

Twelve ensuite bedrooms offering reliable, good-value accommodation at the heart of Unawatuna's beach culture. All rooms have private balconies, a/c, flat screen TV with satellite channels, mini-bar, ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.

Standard Rooms: Two rooms that form part of the old building and open to the front roadway. These rooms have antique beds with mosquito netting.

Deluxe Rooms: Four rooms with A/C offering queen size canopied beds, private balconies with partial sea view.

Superior Rooms: Four rooms with King Size beds along with partial sea view from the sun terrace.

Superior Sea View: Two rooms with King Size beds along with balcony.

Penthouse Rooms: The two Penthouse rooms have the best sea views and open on to a private balcony. These rooms consist of a second room which is located at a higher level furnished with a double bed. Both rooms share one bathroom and can accommodate up to four guests and are ideal for families.

Facilities

The much-loved open-sided restaurant located on the ground floor, serves a range of Sri Lankan and western dishes. Seafood can include flamed red lobster, grilled prawn kebab, sea bass. "Action night" is an open air beach terrace BBQ. Restaurant area has wi-fi. There is also room service.

Location

Unawatuna is within a 15-minute drive of Galle's historic Dutch Fort. The journey from Colombo's international airport will take about 2.5 hours via the Southern highway.
