Suriyawatte

Introduction

Suriyawatte is a private five-bedroom villa perched on a hillock with magnificent views over Weligama on Sri Lanka's south coast. The villa has an informal feel. It is immersed in tropical gardens and is set on a terraced land looking out to the sea. The house is at the top level with the swimming pool at a level below. A pathway through the gardens leads down to the beach. Suriyawatte is designed along the lines of a traditional southern home with a broad verandah that skirts around and a central courtyard. Interiors are comfortably furnished with large sofas that you can sink into, four-poster beds and planter’s chairs on the verandah for taking in the fabulous sea views. Suriyawatte is booked as a whole villa ensuring much privacy and can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Accommodation

There are four bedrooms in the Main House and one bedroom housed in a separate cottage located at a raised level and closer to the main entrance. This fifth bedroom is ideal for a couple and opens out to a private terrace surrounded with tropical foliage. The Main House bedrooms are accessed through the central courtyard and opens out to garden views or the verandah with sea views. Room interiors are furnished with twin or king-size four-poster beds fitted with mosquito netting. In-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.

Facilities

The living room has large French windows opening out to the front verandah and the garden beyond. Meals are served at the 10-seater dining table on the verandah with sea views. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here. Discuss your meal preferences with the in-house chef ahead of time. Guests are welcome to accompany him to the local market to purchase vegetables and fresh seafood and even learn Sri Lankan cookery. Guests can also bring their own alcoholic beverages. Relax on a sun lounge by the swimming pool located in the terraced gardens. Surfing and snorkeling is possible during the season at the Kapparatota beach and Weligama Bay. Other villa facilities include satellite TV, DVD player, board games, WiFi internet and a music system with surround sound. A relaxing massage can be arranged with prior notice. Suriyawatte is staffed with a manager, chef and housekeeping staff that are always at hand to assist guests.

Location

Suriyawatte is in Weligama on the picturesque southern coast. The Weligama Bay situated nearby is ideal for surfing and snorkeling during the season from December to April. The historic city of Galle is about 40 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours.
