Sundara by Mosvold

Introduction

Sundara by Mosvold is a stylish, tranquil beach retreat set on a beautiful tropical bay in the quiet west coast village of Balapitiya, just a short drive from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort. This eight-bedroom property can be rented by the room or as a whole, with room options including the main house, chalets with sea views and a private two-bedroom walauwa, complete with its own pool. The décor is luxurious and elegant, whilst the design of the buildings is reminiscent of the celebrated style of Geoffrey Bawa. From the moment you step along the overwater walkway towards the entrance, you will be overwhelmed with peace, privacy and beauty.

Accommodation

There are eight rooms at Sundara by Mosvold. All rooms have rich furnishings, a quirky design and ornate décor such as intricately carved wooden screens at the back of the bed, as well as large ensuite bathrooms. There are Spa Ceylon products in the bathrooms and artisan tea options in the rooms.

Main House: There are four rooms in the main house, with two on the ground floor and two on the upper floor. One of the upper floor rooms is the Master Bedroom whilst the other is a twin, making the top floor a great option for families with children. There is small seating area between them, which makes the top floor feel like a private apartment. The upper floor rooms boast a balcony offering beautiful sea views.

Beach Villas: The two Beach Villas are situated by the pool in the garden and offer views of the ocean. These private rooms are a great choice for couples. Whilst these rooms are a little smaller, they have the added feature of a partially-covered outdoor shower. Décor is a blend of elegant colours and modern monochrome.

Pool Villa: This is a two-bedroom walauwa set in a secluded area of the gardens that is booked as a whole, perfect for families or couples seeking privacy. This walauwa is at the front of the villa, so lacks a sea view but it has its own pool of about 10m – so longer than a plunge pool - and is surrounded by beautiful flowers.

Facilities

There is a large swimming pool in the extensive gardens, with an open-sided dining area alongside it. Plenty of sun loungers are available, and there are lots of indoor spaces ideal for curling up with a good book. In-room spa treatments can be arranged on request. There is direct access to the beach at the bottom of the garden, where it is safe to swim between December and March.
