Introduction

Suite Lanka is one of the most appealing small beach hotels on Sri Lanka’s west coast. On the upmarket southern fringes of Hikkaduwa, tucked away from the hustle and bustle further down the beach, it is an astute choice for those seeking informality and expertise. Suite Lanka is a charming spot – of traditional design with many boutique flourishes – and has an amazing frontage onto one of the most pristine beaches of the country. All the rooms have direct uninterrupted views of the shimmering Indian ocean and of the palm-fringed garden which is one of the best features of this little gem. The resort has an uplifting cheerful feel and attracts a bright yet unstuffy clientele as well as being ideal for families.

Accommodation

Nine spacious double rooms and huge suites are set in a three-storey building accessed by four old-fashioned staircases from the gardens. Interiors have polished cement or teak floors and large glass windows and doors that open out to a private veranda or balcony with sea view. Beautiful black and white portraits adorn the walls. Rooms are furnished with a king-sized bed, lounge chairs, wardrobe and work desk. In-room facilities include a/c, telephone, mini-fridge, TV, safe and Wi-Fi. En suite bathrooms have bathtubs and h/w rain showers.

Superior rooms: Each room has a size of approx. 42 sqm which includes a spacious private veranda overlooking the garden and the Indian Ocean. The bathrooms provide a spacious granite shower, a double-washbasin and porcelain lavatories. The bedrooms are equipped with a four-poster king-size bed, a spacious wardrobe with an electronic safe and a daybed.

Deluxe rooms: Each room has a size of approx. 58 sqm which includes a spacious private veranda offering spectacular views over the Indian Ocean. The bathrooms provide a spacious granite-tiled shower, a double-washbasin and porcelain lavatories. The bedrooms are equipped with a four-poster king-size bed, a spacious wardrobe with an electronic safe and a daybed.

One Bedroom Suites: This impressive Suite has a size of approx. 74 sqm with teak wooded floor. It is found on the ground floor with access over a spacious private terrace direct to the garden. The bathroom provides a spacious granite-tiled shower, a high-class double-washbasin and porcelain lavatories. The bedroom is equipped with a four-poster king-size bed, a spacious wardrobe with an electronic safe and a daybed. The lounge offers lots of space for relaxing in a cool atmosphere and provides an additional daybed.

Two Bedroom Suite: The stately Two Bedroom Suite has a size of approx. 112 sqm with teak wooded floor. It is located on the ground floor with access over two private terraces to the garden and with direct private access to the swimming-pool. Both bathrooms have a spacious granite tiled shower, double-washbasins and porcelain lavatories. Each bedroom is equipped with a four-poster king-size bed, a spacious wardrobe with an electronic safe and a daybed. The spacious lounge area, inter-connecting the two rooms, makes this ideal for a family traveling together.

Penthouse: There are few accommodation options on Sri lanka’s glorious coastline as imposing as this. The Penthouse has a total size of approx. 320 sqm and covers the entire top floor. Two huge Suites with spectacular ocean views allow a family of four to have their own completely private area, plus use all other advantages the hotel offers as they please. A private staircase leads to the Penthouse from the back of the building and gives easy access to the Swimming Pool.

The architecture is contemporary with polished titanium floor. Both bedrooms have ample space. They are equipped with a four-poster king-size bed, huge wardrobes and a comfortable sitting area, big enough to accommodate one or even two extra beds. The bathrooms are spacious. In addition to the shower, the Master Bedroom´s bathroom provides a free-standing bath tub, with sea views. Both Suites are equipped with a/c, ceiling fan, mini bar, electronic safe, cable TV with flat screen etc.

The Master Suite of the Penthouse has a mini office cubicle (used by the owner when in residence) The spacious outside area between the Suites provides a dining table, sun beds and plenty of lounging opportunities. The bar area includes a big fridge and a music system.

The Penthouse can be booked as a whole or as two individual suites.

Facilities

The airy restaurant serves Sri Lankan rice and curry and a mix of international fusion cuisine. Meals can also be served in the lush garden area facing the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A range of alcoholic beverages and cocktails are on offer at the Island Vibe bar which has one of the most eclectic music playlists in Sri Lanka, with jazz and blues jostling for attention with classic tracks, indie rock and global favourites. There is a freshwater swimming pool adjacent to the indoor restaurant and bar and sun loungers for sunbathing. The restoration of a beach restaurant, a TV lounge for sport and movies, and a small board games and library area were planned by November 2021. The stunning Narigama beach fronting the property is safe for swimming most times of the year – although you should always take advice. The bustling Hikkaduwa tourist area, offering water-sports, teeming with restaurants and playing music late into the night, is a walk away – conveniently placed although well out of earshot - making this an idea place for long stays.

Location

Suite Lanka is located in the fringes of Hikkaduwa at Thiranagama on the old Colombo-Galle coastal road. Hikkaduwa’s vibrant tourist town with its restaurants, bars and nightlife is just a short walk away. Galle is only half-an-hour to the south.
