Introduction

Stonyhurst is an exquisite six-bedroom stone cottage situated down a secluded, leafy by-road in Nuwara Eliya, near the golf club. Set on a manicured lawn with flowering hedges, it is a luxurious two-storey holiday bungalow with warm and welcoming interiors caringly created by its Sri Lankan owners. The ground floor consists of a cozy living and dining areas decorated with plush sofas, chandeliers and fireplaces. The upper floor has six well-appointed bedrooms, one of which is a children’s room. Wake up leisurely and take a stroll past the adjacent historic Holy Trinity Church and down the by roads towards town; or play a round of golf at the nearby Nuwara Eliya golf club. At dusk, relax with a drink by the fireplace and dine on a sumptuous dinner prepared by the in-house cook. Stonyhurst is well equipped with all modern conveniences and is rented on a villa only basis to one party at time ensuring complete privacy. This is an ideal holiday retreat for a family or a small group of friends travelling together. Stonyhurst can accommodate upto 10 adults and four children.

Accommodation

All six bedrooms at Stonyhurst are situated on the upper floor and open on to garden or mountain views.

Master bedroom: Furnished with a four-poster king-sized antique bed and has a sitting area with fireplace, ensuite bathroom and balcony overlooking the Holy Trinity church.

Bedroom two: Shares the balcony with the master bedroom and has a four-poster king-sized bed and ensuite bathroom.

Bedrooms three & four: These two rooms have king-sized beds and views over the garden and the Lovers Leap mountain range. They share one bathroom that is located across the hallway.

Bedrooms five & six: These two bedrooms also share one bathroom. Of these two bedrooms, one is furnished with two double beds and the other with two bunk beds that can accommodate four children.

Facilities

The living room is ideal for relaxing by the fireplace or watching a film. The dining room also has a fireplace and an adjoining pantry. There is a fully-equipped kitchen where guests can cook their own meals or relax and enjoy your holiday while the in-house cook does the grocery shopping and prepares tasty Sri Lanka and western meals for you. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. Other villa facilities include washer and dryer,telephone with IDD facilities, cable TV, iPod music system, DVD player, a selection of movies, books and board games, table tennis, croquet and four bicycles for guests to use. Stonyhurst is staffed with a butler cum chef and gardener.

Location

Nuwara Eliya, an old colonial hill station, lies more than 6,000 feet above sea level and can be approached via Kandy or Hatton. The drive from Kandy is about 2 hours. You can also head to the south coast via a daily sea plane service between Hatton and Koggala.
