Built in 1926, Rosyth Estate House is a seven-bedroom planter’s bungalow perched on a hillock in Kegalle, an hour further into the hills from Kandy. Rosyth consists of the original Main House, located at a higher level, the swimming pool terrace (a level below) and a separate Duplex Unit. Rosyth is designed with verandas, courtyards and terraces that let you enjoy the tropical climate and lush gardens scattered with fruit trees. Rosyth Estate House offers well-appointed bedrooms, traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and a peaceful holiday setting. Rosyth can be booked by the room and welcomes families with children. This is a great option for the first or last night in Sri Lanka.
The nine individually-designed bedrooms are named after local fruits and spices and categorised into Classic Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Classic Suites and Plantation Suites. Interiors are comfortably furnished and well-decorated. All rooms have overhead fans and a/c. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
Cinnamon: Adjacent to the Main House with a separate entrance from the rear courtyard. Furnished with a king-sized four-poster bed. Ensuite bathroom has twin vanities and h/w shower. Opens out to the courtyard and the swimming pool.
Lime & Coconut: These two interconnecting rooms are located in a separate duplex unit, accessed from the rear garden. Coconut is on the upper floor and has spectacular mountain views. Lime can either be accessed through a separate outdoor entrance or down a steep flight of stairs from Coconut. Furnished with king-sized beds and a day bed which can be easily turned into an additional single bed.
Clove: Also in the Main House, this is a spacious room with twin beds that can be put together to make a king-sized bed if required. There is also a day bed that can sleep an additional guest.
Mango: Located off the courtyard, this spacious room is furnished with a king-sized bed.
Cardamom & Palm: Situated in the Main House, these are two interconnecting rooms that can also be booked individually. Cardamom is a spacious double room accessed from the living room. The Palm is a smaller twin room that is accessed from the front veranda.
Plantation Suites: Set on the terraces at the front of the Estate House nestled amongst the tea bushes, these two suites are 50 meters away from the main house, offer great privacy and outstanding views towards mountains and the expansive view. The suites are sold separately and are interconnecting.
Tea: The larger of the two suites, on the upper floor. Small sitting area with day bed, bedroom with four-poster bed and a large enclosed outdoor terrace complete with bath tub.
Pepper: : Furnished with twin beds which can be made into a super king-sized bed, Pepper is situated on the lower floor and also has a large enclosed outdoor terrace with bath tub.
Traditional Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served in the dining pavilion, which looks out to spectacular mountain views. Meals are prepared with fresh vegetables and herbs picked from their own gardens. For those who are interested in Sri Lankan cuisine, the in-house chef offers cookery classes. Other bungalow facilities include: a lounge and dining room, an extensive library, complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a selection of DVDs and board games. There is also a swimming pool set amidst lush tropical gardens, two mountain bikes and badminton equipment.

Rosyth Estate House is a refurbished planter’s bungalow built in the 1920s set on a 64-acre working tea and rubber estate in Kegalle. Rosyth is an hour south of Kandy and the journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about two hours.
