Nilaveli Beach Hotel

Introduction

Nilaveli Beach Hotel was for many years unrivalled as a hotel option on Sri Lanka's east coast. It rests in 15 acres of landscaped gardens with magnificent views across white sandy beaches to Pigeon Island. The hotel has stylish and luxurious rooms and stunning views of the ocean. There is a large swimming pool nestled amidst tall tropical trees and the calm seas are perfect for swimming during most of the year.

Accommodation

There are 43 Deluxe and Standard rooms at Nilaveli Beach Hotel. All rooms have a/c and a private balcony or terrace, perfect for lounging or spotting birds and the occasional monkey on the tree tops.

Deluxe rooms: All have sea views, with most located close to the Indian Ocean. In-room facilities include a/c and an overhead fan, TV, DVD player, a mini bar, an electronic safe and an ensuite bathroom with h/w.

Standard rooms: Set back within the garden, they have a/c and an overhead fan, a mini bar, an electronic safe and an ensuite bathroom with h/w.

Facilities

The indoor restaurant serves a set menu of Sri Lankan and Western dishes, laid out buffet-style. The poolside garden restaurant opens out to the sea and has an a la carte menu, serving a range of light snacks, seafood specialties including prawns, crab, and lobster, and alcoholic beverages. Beach BBQs are organised on Saturday nights and there is also an indoor bar and spacious lounge area which looks out to the tropical gardens. Other facilities include a swimming pool set amidst shady trees, tennis courts and beach volleyball.

Why we like it

We love the Maldives-style white sand beach - you can have evening dinner on the beach too, lit by oil lamps.

Location

The fishing village of Nilaveli, situated about 16 kms north of Trincomalee on Sri Lanka's east coast, has glorious beaches which are particularly good for swimming and snorkelling from March to October. About six hours from the internatiuonal airport via the cultural triangle or consider air taxi options.
