MO River House

Introduction

Set apart from the fast-paced environment of Hikkaduwa on Rathgama Lake, the MO River House is a perfect getaway for families and couples who are in search of a tranquil haven of high quality in which to relax and unwind. MO River House, like most colonial villas, has a veranda at the entrance, which leads to two deluxe rooms situated on either side of the house. The corridor opens to the meda midula, which has a small pond, spacious living area on the left and a dining area on the right. Apart from the main living area, guests can lounge around on the veranda at the back of the house and surround themselves with nature. The villa has several sitting and dining areas in different parts of the garden, ensuring that guests have their own private space. They also have a wooden deck built over the edge of the lake that can be used for private dining.

Accommodation

MO River House has three bedrooms: two deluxe rooms, and one family room, located on the first floor. Both deluxe rooms are elegantly decorated in hues of black and white, furnished with four poster king-sized beds, complementing antique furniture and ensuite bathrooms. As the rooms are rectangular in shape, it cannot accommodate more than two people, making it ideal for couples.

The upstairs room can easily sleep a family of four, although as it is an attic room, it might not work well with older children. There is a sitting area, fully equipped with a book rack and a collection of board games to entertain the young and old alike.

A/C, hot and cold water, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a child friendly swimming pool.

MO River House offers delicious Sri Lankan and Western dishes made with fresh seafood including lobster, crabs, prawns and a variety of local fish, but the villa does not serve pork.

Guests can bring in their own alcohol but the villa serves complementary local arrack and toddy, upon availability.

Location

MO River House (not to be confused with The River House in Balapitiya) is 5 kms from Hikkaduwa coral reef, overlooking the serene Rathgama Lake. It is only 15 minutes to the Hikkaduwa beach from the accommodation, and 30 minutes to Galle, making it a perfect location for day trips. For those who want to explore Unawatuna, it’s only 45 minutes away.
