Introduction

Mirissa Hills is a tranquil boutique hotel commanding breath-taking hilltop views across a 50-acre cinnamon estate, to the beautiful bay of Mirissa in Sri Lanka's deep south. Designed by the renowned Sri Lankan architect Anjalendran, Mirissa Hills is contemporary in style with open-plan living and dining areas, manicured lawns, spacious bedrooms with private verandas and interiors decorated with dramatic local art and sculptures. The architect has ensured that the panoramic views can be enjoyed throughout the villa – from the bedrooms, on a terrace reclining in a planter’s chair, whilst soaking in the bathtub, or even whilst cooking in the kitchen. The tranquil and inspiring surroundings are also ideally suited for yoga and meditation. Mirissa Hills is made up of three properties on the estate: The Bungalow at the base of the hill, Cinnamon Museum halfway up the hill and Mount Cinnamon which is right at the top.

Accommodation

The Bungalow: Beautifully furnished with a blend of old and new, The Bungalow at Mirissa Hills offers calm and serenity. With a spacious and soothing living space, the three bedrooms at The Bungalow can occupy two persons in each and has en suite bathrooms. Each room is equipped with mosquito nets and fans.

Mount Cinnamon: This luxury villa atop the mountain has 360 degree views and consists of three suites and one single bedroom which can sleep two. All rooms have private terraces which offer wonderful views. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with h/w shower and locally-made cinnamon soap. Bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds dressed in local fabrics and fitted with mosquito nets, a/c and overhead fans.

Cinnamon Museum: Located just a few yards downhill from Mount Cinnamon is the Cinnamon Museum with an additional four double rooms that were completed in 2009. Two of the rooms have sea views and two have garden views. Interiors are colourful and tastefully decorated. In-room facilities here include a/c, overhead fans, beds fitted with mosquito nets. Ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.

Cinnamon Suite: Overlooking the front gardens, this suite consists of a double bedroom, private veranda and library. Ensuite bathroom has a bathtub and h/w shower.

Flamboyant Suite: Consists of a spacious double room, private veranda and ensuite bathroom with h/w shower. Situated on the same side as the Cinnamon Suite.

Peacock Royal Suite: Opening out to the central courtyard where the swimming pool is located, this double bedroom has a private terrace overlooking the estate and ensuite bathroom with bathtub and h/w shower.

Taprobane Suite: Situated near Peacock Royal, this is a single bedroom opening out to the central courtyard. Ensuite bathroom has h/w shower.

Facilities

Mount Cinnamon: The sitting and dining rooms at Mount Cinnamon open out to a manicured lawn on one side with views towards the breath-taking Weligama and Mirissa Bays. The other side looks out into a courtyard and the deep blue swimming pool. Sri Lankan rice and curry or Western dishes are served here using homemade condiments and fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. Guests can dine in the main dining room, in the garden or in the privacy of their own veranda. Other facilities include TV, DVD player, and music system. The tranquil surroundings are ideal for yoga.

Cinnamon Museum: A restaurant is on the upper floor which serves tasty Sri Lankan rice and curries and snacks. Guests at the Museum are welcome to use the restaurant and swimming pool facilities at Mount Cinnamon.

The Bungalow: Relax and enjoy evenings on the lawn, taking in the tranquillity of the Sri Lankan countryside.

Location

Mirissa Hills is 15 minutes inland from Mirissa Bay. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take approximately three hours, or take an Air Taxi to Koggala, which is about 30 minute drive.
