Melheim Resort

Introduction

Melheim Resort is a 14-room mid-range hotel set in the hills of Haputale, overlooking terraced gardens and bordered by forest reserves. Surrounded by mountains, this is an utterly relaxing setting. The 14 bedrooms are spread across four separate buildings. Interiors are contemporary with timber decks, polished cement floors and large glass windows that allow breathtaking views. On a clear day, the views extend to the Uda Walawe reservoir and the southern coast. The gardens attract numerous birds, monkeys, and the occasional mongoose. Melheim is a peaceful and tranquil setting where the soothing sound of flowing water from a nearby stream, rustling leaves and bird call is a constant. This hilly setting is not recommended for those with mobility problems.

Accommodation

There are 14 Deluxe and Standard Rooms all with mountains views. Rooms are comfortably furnished with dressing table and writing desk and open to a private balcony. Other facilities include overhead fans, cable TV, DVD player, mini-bar, tea/coffee facility, safety locker, room service and laundry service. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.

Deluxe Rooms:  There are five Deluxe Rooms which are spacious and situated at a higher level allowing for spectacular views. These rooms are furnished with king-size beds.

Standard Rooms:  The nine Standard Rooms are slightly smaller and located at a level below the Deluxe Rooms. These rooms are furnished with twin or queen-size beds.

Facilities

The restaurant has an indoor area and outdoor terrace with beautiful views. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served as well as BBQs and special vegetarian dishes. Landscaped terraced gardens have flowering plants, trees, and benches. The swimming pool, steam room and pool pavilion are at the lowest level with views across the jungles and mountains. Upon request, snacks and drinks are served here. Other resort facilities include wifi in the reception area; DVD library; board games; small children’s playground; and mountain bike hire.

Location

Melheim Resort is perched on the hills of Haputale in the Southern Highlands with spectacular views across the Southern Plains. Conveniently located for Nuwara Eliya to the north and the south coast beaches. Uda Walawe National Park is two hours south from here. The journey from Colombo via Ratnapura will take around five hours.
