Lantern

Introduction

Lantern is a six-bedroom boutique hotel which fronts the secluded Kaburugamuwa Beach in Mirissa on Sri Lanka's south coast.  This two-storey holiday retreat is modern in design and offers spacious suites opening on to private balconies with spectacular sea views, fusion cuisine and a picturesque beachside setting. Lantern is an ideal setting for a special celebration and can be booked as a whole villa or by the room. The accommodation also has two contemporary four-bedroom villas located close to the main hotel area, overlooking the inviting blue shores of Mirissa.

Accommodation

There are six rooms, including one Garden Suite facing the ocean, 1 Ocean View Suite with a large balcony and four Classic Rooms with ocean view balconies. Rooms are furnished with king-sized beds, a/c and overhead fans, 40 inch HD LCD TV with satellite channels, Apple TV, DVD player and iPad (on request). There is also free Wi-Fi and tea/coffee facilities. Ensuite bathrooms are stylish and have h/w showers.

Classic Rooms (430 sq. ft): Located on the first floor, the four Classic Rooms open on to a broad balcony with sea views.

Ocean View Suite (700 sq. ft): Also located on the first floor, this luxurious suite has a separate living space adorned with a broad balcony with sea views. The Ocean View Suite and a Classic Room can interconnect.

Garden Suite (700 sq. ft): This ground floor suite opens on to a 400 sq. ft outdoor living space and the garden and sea beyond.

Beach Villas: These villas include two master bedrooms on the first floor and two ground-floor rooms, all with an ensuite bathroom, and a maid’s room with bathroom and storage space. In room facilities include A/C, ceiling fans, LCD TV and wardrobes. They also have a living and dining area overlooking a 10x5m pool, an outdoor deck with sun loungers and BBQ facilities, an open-plan dry kitchen and wet kitchen equipped with utensils and cutlery. A large landscape garden leads to the beach. Villas include a personal chef and butler.

Facilities

Lantern serves fusion cuisine, prepared with fresh organic vegetables from their neighbouring Lantern Estate and seafood purchased directly from the local fisherman. The in-house chef prepares his specialty dishes in an open kitchen where guests can watch and learn to prepare a few Sri Lankan dishes. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. The garden is scattered with mangroves and coconut palms and leads to the secluded Kaburugamuwa Beach. Swimming in the seas fronting the hotel is possible during the season from December to April. There is also a 23 metre pool, spa facilities and well-stocked library. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout.

Location

Lantern lies just south of the highly popular Mirissa Bay in an area favoured by smaller boutique hotels. It is three hours from Colombo’s international airport or take an air taxi. If you are then heading into the hills, we offer competitive rates on a sea plane service between Koggala and Hatton.
