Introduction
Lagoon Paradise spreads over a five-acre estate on Sri Lanka's south coast scattered with coconut palms, mangroves and flowering plants and is edged by the Rekuwa Lagoon and the sea beyond. Accommodation is in Deluxe Rooms and Cabanas. The restaurants are set back from the rooms, one overlooking the lagoon and the other right on the beach. This laid-back holiday resort offers comfortable accommodation immersed in tropical gardens and a peaceful beachside setting. Rekuwa is well known for the endangered marine turtles that come to nest on its beaches.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in Standard Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, and Cabanas. Red Dot recommends only the Deluxe Rooms and the Cabanas. Cabanas are located toward the front of the property and overlook the gardens and swimming pool.
Deluxe Rooms: The single or double Deluxe Rooms have a/c and overhead fans, mini-bar, satellite TV and attached bathroom with h/w shower. These bedrooms open out to a private balcony or veranda with garden views.
Superior Deluxe Rooms: Same facilities as Deluxe Rooms, but attached bathrooms have an additional Jacuzzi.
Lagoon Cabanas: These six cabanas consist of a bedroom opening out to a private veranda overlooking the gardens and lagoon beyond. In-room facilities include a/c, mini-bar, satellite TV and attached bathroom with h/w shower. Single, double and triple cabanas are available.
Beach Cabana: This cabana is set right on the beach and has a private veranda with sea views. There is no a/c and no hot water in the attached bathroom. Overhead ceiling fans help to keep the room cool.
Facilities
The restaurant and bar is located by the lagoon and serves mainly Sri Lankan cuisine and few western dishes. There is another beach restaurant with thatched roof: fresh seafood is a specialty here, purchased directly from the local fisherman and prepared to your liking. A limited variety of alcoholic beverages are on offer. Other hotel facilities include a swimming pool, Wi-Fi and kayaks for paddling down the lagoon. There is a small overhead bridge which leads to the secluded beaches – the sea fronting Lagoon Paradise is at its safest for swimming during December to April.
