Eraeliya Villas

Introduction

Eraeliya, meaning ‘sunlight’ in Sinhalese, is a peaceful holiday retreat minutes from Weligama Bay on Sri Lanka's south coast. It is comprised of four individual villas set in an acre of terraced tropical gardens with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. These one- to four-bedroom villas are designed with broad balconies and terraces and luxurious interiors individually decorated with Dutch period Sri Lankan furniture and art. Eraeliya offers a range of exotic Sri Lankan and western meals served in the comfort of your own villa. The extensive gardens with lotus-filled ponds, fruit trees and coconut palms attract many species of birds, mongoose and even monkeys, and lead downhill to the beach. The villas can be booked by the room.

Accommodation

The villas are one- to four-bedroom and set at different levels in the terraced gardens. They each open out to private terraces with sea views and are surrounded by tropical foliage. Villa interiors are comfortably furnished with twin or king-sized beds fitted with mosquito netting, writing desk and wardrobe. In-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, complimentary Wi-Fi and ensuite bathrooms with twin vanities and h/w showers. All guests can use the pool at Villa Bawana.

Villa Muhudu Bella: Inspired by a sea shell, the Muhudu Bella chalet swirls around to include a double bedroom and attached bathroom. The terrace leads off from the bedroom and is furnished with a two-seater dining table and sun lounges. Ideal for a couple.

Villa Nelum: Has a spacious bedroom and living area opening out to the garden. The ensuite bathroom has twin vanities, h/w shower and a uniquely-designed free-standing marble bath tub. Accommodates up to three guests.

Villa Walauwa: A self-contained villa with two ensuite bedrooms, living room and a small kitchen. Bedrooms open out to balconies with sea views. Ideal for families: can accommodate up to five guests.

Villa Bawana: A spacious two-storey villa consisting of four luxurious suites named Diviya, Alaya, Samaya and Ramaya. Ensuite bathrooms have twin vanities, h/w showers and exquisite marble bathtubs. The ground floor has a spacious lounge with a high roof, a library and a broad terrace which opens out to an infinity swimming pool with spectacular ocean views. Can be booked by the room or as a whole villa. An additional bed can be provided for each suite.

Facilities

Eraeliya provides a personalised service with all meals served in the privacy of your own villa. Traditional Sri Lankan and western cuisine is on offer, prepared with fresh seafood purchased from the local fisherman and village vegetables. There is also an infinity pool at Villa Bawana that can be used by all guests, and Eraeliya offers relaxing massages, yoga sessions and Sri Lankan cookery classes. Bird watching in the gardens can be rewarding. The gardens lead down to a secluded beach, where surfing and safe swimming is possible from December to April.
