Introduction

Dolce Casa is an appealing, simple guesthouse on the outskirts of central Colombo, which offers the the added delight of living above the finest Italian restaurant in Sri Lanka - ideal therefore for those seeking clean and comfortable accommodation at an affordable price backed up by great food. Comprised of two houses, Dolce Casa has four double bedrooms and an interconnecting family room (one double and one twin with a shared bathroom) as well as the simple yet characterful restaurant which sells a range of delicious Italian cuisine, cakes and pastries and high-quality coffee and juices. The Western breakfast offered here is one of the best in Colombo. The restaurant is light and cool, decorated with a range of colourful prints of old Italian adverts, and there is a covered outdoor eating area at the front of the property in a leafy side-road. Just a short drive from the capital’s main attractions, Dolce Casa offers convenient accommodation for travellers seeking to explore Colombo and a relaxing atmosphere to retreat to after spending the day walking around the city’s lively streets.

Accommodation

The guesthouse has five bedrooms in total: three double rooms, two of which have a small balcony; an interconnecting family suite, made up of a twin and a double room with shared bathroom, and a private double room on the upper floor which has the addition of a large terrace where private dining can be arranged. All rooms are decorated in neutral tones, with the addition of splashes of colour in the cushions and pretty landscape paintings. The ensuite bathrooms are modern with powerful h/w showers. Each room is spacious, between 18 and 20sqm, and furnished with a wardrobe, desk, tea and coffee facilies, hairdryer, fans and a/c.

Facilities

On the ground and second floors there are small communal areas with wicker chairs and a table, great for playing cards or sitting with a cool drink. On the second floor (close to four of the five rooms) there is a small, partially enclosed annex covered in comfy cushions ideal for curling up with a good book. The restaurant downstairs serves a range of tempting Western cuisine. Dolce Casa also have an on-call doctor and fast Wi-Fi throughout.
