Introduction

Clingendael is a luxurious five-bedroom villa situated in the Victoria Golf & Country Resort in Kandy, with magnificent views of the Victoria Reservoir and the golf course. Designed along the lines of a colonial-period Kandyan Wallauwa (ancestral house),this magnificent boutique hotel and villa exudes a stately grandeur yet is infused with cutting-edge technology. The creation of Clilngendael took five years with its Dutch owner painstakingly putting together original doors, windows, staircases, floorboards and furniture collected from old colonial houses. The old-world charm is blended tastefully with a touch of colour, contemporary art on the walls and modern conveniences. You don't need to be a golfer to relish Clingendael's terraced gardens, cascading waterways, verandas and tranquil setting.

Accommodation

Named after five old Dutch estate houses, each of the spacious a/c suites at Clingendael has individual character. Each suite opens out onto a private veranda overlooking the gardens. They have LCD Television with satellite channels, an IPod with a selection of music, IDD facilities, a work space and dressing area. All rooms also have Wi-Fi and an ensuite bathroom equipped with double overhead showers, bathtub, vanities, and w/c. Some suites possess an antique wooden staircase leading to a quiet loft area with views of the gardens.

Welt e Vree (Green Room) - has twin beds and an antique staircase leading to the loft which looks down on the gardens. Ideal for work or relaxation.

Vreugd en Rust (Brown Room) - has a queen-sized hardwood four-poster bed, dressing area, private veranda and loft space. There is also an ensuite bathroom with a `Japanese Bath' which has a large overhead-shower.

Harmonie (Red Room) - has a king-sized bed on a cement platform, dressing area, private veranda and loft space.

Meer en Duyn (Blue Room) - has king-sized bed on a cement platform, dressing area and private veranda.

Uytvlught (Master Suite) - spacious suite with living and dining area, dressing room and king-sized canopied four-poster bed.

Facilities

Clingendael's dramatic entrance leads you downhill through landscaped gardens past an infinity pool overlooking the Victoria reservoir and a cascading pond. At the main entrance of the house is a veranda which serves as a living and dining space. Through the more formal living area is a tranquil living space at the rear that opens out to a manicured garden, the reservoir and mountains beyond. The property has numerous locations for dining including a main dining room which seats 14, your private veranda or in the gardens. Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is served using fresh local produce: discuss your preferences with the chef. Drinks are served from the bar in the front veranda.

Location

Clingendael is about 40 minutes to the east of Kandy in the Victoria Golf & Country Resort which is also convenient for the cricket at Pallakele. About four hours from Colombo.
