Introduction
Blue Magpie Lodge is a simple guesthouse set by a river with sweeping views of the misty mountains close to the entrance of Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sri Lanka's last surviving rain forest. A velvet white mist rolls in to a chorus on of bird song, the words breath-taking and beautiful appear inadequate. Blue Magpie Lodge is a basic property, but one blessed with a truly stunning natural location. The Lodge offers simple but clean and comfortable rooms, traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and a tranquil location which is ideal for spotting exotic endemic birds of Sri Lanka. Surrounded by lush forest, it is a convenient resting point for nature lovers wishing to spend most of their time trekking through the jungles.
Accommodation
The Lodge has 12 basic rooms – six doubles and six triples furnished with twin or double beds fitted with mosquito netting. Bedrooms open out to a verandah with mountain views. Overhead ceilings fans help to keep the rooms cool and comfortable. Attached bathrooms have h/w shower, wash basin, and w/c.
Facilities
Dine on traditional Sri Lankan cuisine at the open sided restaurant with views across the mountains. The Blue Magpie Lodge has no modern frills – this is a place for nature lovers not cable TV addicts. Take a dip in the natural stream that runs at the edge of the property and cool off after a long day of trekking in the jungles. A friendly and helpful team of staff, most from the surrounding village, help to run the lodge.
