Introduction
Amaloh is a luxurious boutique hotel close to the south coast Sri Lanka town of Matara and has an informal, welcoming feel which makes it very much a home away from home. Amaloh is designed to reflect traditional southern architecture with courtyards, clay-tiled roofs, and broad verandas, where hours can be spent gazing out to sea. Interiors are stylishly decorated with a blend of Dutch-period antiques, local fabrics and art. The three-acre gardens are edged by a stone terrace and the sea beyond. The more adventurous might wish to go kayaking and explore the small island nearby, go whale and dolphin spotting off the coast of Mirissa, or head to the Yala National Park for a jeep safari. The sea fronting Amaloh is protected by a natural coral reef and is suitable for swimming and snorkelling during the season from December to April. Kayaking is possible all year round.
Accommodation
There are 20 luxurious rooms opening out to private balconies or verandas, categorised into 12 Deluxe, 5 Super Deluxe, 2 Ocean Suites and a Garden Room. All rooms are well-furnished with king-sized beds dressed in fine linen, Dutch period antique cupboards and lounge chairs. In-room facilities include a/c, LED TV with satellite channels, DVD player, mini-bar, tea/coffee facilities, electronic safe and complimentary Wi-Fi. Ensuite bathrooms are equipped with special Ayurvedic herbal toiletries and h/w rain shower and bath tub, with the exception of the Garden Room. Both Ocean Suites are furnished with a Jacuzzi instead of a bath tub.
Facilities
Dine on traditional Sri Lankan or western cuisine in the main dining room, in the gardens or in the privacy of your own room. Meals are prepared with fresh seafood purchased from the local fisherman and village vegetables. The chefs here are happy to share their recipes and will conduct Sri Lankan cookery lessons on request. Amaloh also caters to special dietary requirements: discuss your meal preferences with the chef ahead of time. Wine and cocktails are on offer. Other hotel facilities include: 24 hour in-room dining and laundry service, a swimming pool, a lounging deck by the ocean, kayaks and snorkelling gear. Yoga and relaxing massages are on offer with prior notice.
