Introduction
Slightly Chilled is a family-run Guest House situated in the central highlands in Dalhousie, overlooked by the sacred Sri Pada or Adam's Peak. This unassuming property has stone, timber and glass exteriors and colourful interiors, with large glass panels affording spectacular views of Adam's Peak from the dining area as well as the bedrooms. The interiors are light and airy, with a profusion of colours. This guest house, owned by the Dissanayake family, was originally located at the foot of Adam's Peak. Due to government restrictions, eventually it relocated to Dalhousie. Its present name `slightly chilled' was crowned by the foreign partner who had visited the original guest house previously many times, and appreciated a relaxing environment that remains under its latest guise.
Accommodation
The guest house offers a range of accommodation including double, twin, single and family rooms all with private balconies with mountain and wilderness views and has a small lounge area. The Family Rooms are more spacious and furnished with a double plus single bed. Children's cots are available upon request. The spacious rooms have wooden floors, exposed timber beams and walls in colors of olive green and lemon yellow. Some rooms have ensuite bathrooms and others share a bathroom. All have with h/w showers, wash basin and w/c.
Facilities
The dining area has spectacular views. Sri Lankan rice and curries, western dishes, light snacks and fabulous up-country tea is served here. Other facilities include a large TV with satellite channels, IDD telephone, internet access, laundry service, safe deposit box, and a 24-hour reception, a necessary convenience for those climbing Adam's Peak. A guide, although not essential, is available for the climb and the chef will be happy to organise a picnic breakfast with notice given the previous night. Nature walks up to the nearby waterfalls, the river and through the wilderness, bird watching and cycling through village paths is also possible.
