Introduction
Roo Mansala is a small and peaceful property set in a quiet countryside spot just a short drive from Sigiriya town. The hotel boasts magnificent views of both Sigiriya Rock, renowned for its iconic 5th-century fortress, and neighbouring Pidurangala Rock, a lesser-visited site which offers glorious vistas of Sigiriya Rock from its summit. Roo Mansala’s six bedrooms are bright and spacious, with the ground floor rooms leading straight out to the garden whilst the upper floor rooms each have a balcony with direct views of the imposing rocks. Find serenity here between your visits to the historical sites of this region: relax around the good-sized pool; dine on traditional and international cuisine in the open-sided restaurant, and go on bird walks through the surrounding countryside.
Accommodation
There are six rooms at Roo Mansala, set in three duplex buildings at the bottom of the garden. The rooms are split into three categories:
Apsaras Retreat Superior Rooms: These three rooms occupy the ground floor of each duplex, all with a large window facing out to the garden, great for watching birds and butterflies. These bright and airy rooms all have a king-sized bed, additional single bed and ensuite bathroom with rainshower, large mirror, sink and w/c. The white walls and modern monochrome furnishings are juxtaposed with vibrant earthy fabrics and old-style paintings reminiscent of traditional Sinhala art. In-room amenities include desk, TV, tea & coffee and air-conditioning.
Kassapa Refuge Panoramic Suites: These two rooms are upstairs and have the addition of a small balcony with seating and striking views of Sigiriya and Pidurangala rocks. They also have beautiful vaulted ceilings made from intricately linked wooden beams, creating the sense of luxury and spaciousness. The in-room décor, furnishings and amenities are the same.
Alakamandawa Honeymoon Suite: This penthouse suite is tucked in the very back corner of the garden for additional privacy. The glass-walled ensuite bathroom with large bathtub and open rainshower adds to the sense of romance. There is no additional single bed, but otherwise all in-room facilities and amenities are the same.
Facilities
Roo Mansala’s open-sided restaurant serves up fusion cuisine which takes inspiration from around the world. Five-course dining, set menu dinners and a la carte are all available in the evening. Guests can choose between traditional and western options for breakfast, and a range of simple dishes are on offer at lunchtime. Roo Mansala also has a good-sized pool and has plans to build a spa. Guided walks to the nearby lake will delight nature lovers, in particularly those with a penchant for birdwatching – at sunset, many endemic and migratory bird species can be spotted. You may also see deer, rabbits, star tortoise and even wild elephants!
