Introduction
W15 Hanthana Estate is a restored tea bungalow poised high in the hills of the Hanthana Mountain Range. It is a peaceful escape, combining grand architecture with spectacular views, and is within easy reach of the main tourist attractions of Sri Lanka’s last royal capital. The esplanade of columns that greet you on arrival, almost Grecian in concept, signal that this is no modest tea bungalow. With just ten bedrooms and a large communal living area, it has an intimate yet regal feel, and its grand gardens offer plenty of places where guests can unwind with privacy. There is much to do here, from challenging hikes and jeep tours of the mountains to birdwatching and playing croquet on the lawn, or you may prefer to relax in the sumptuously decorated sitting room, on the wrap-around veranda or by the large swimming pool.
Accommodation
There are ten bedrooms at W15 Hanthana Estate – six in the main bungalow and four in The Stables:
Bungalow Suites: The bungalow suites are all unique in size and style but boast the same colonial-period décor and luxurious furnishings including a cosy double bed, table and armchairs, desk and large wardrobe. They also have an enclosed outdoor patio and ensuite bathroom with separate w/c and shower area, large mirror with twin sinks and range of luxurious amenities.
Master Bungalow Suite: This room is as above, but more spacious with a super king-sized bed and ornate architectural features.
Stable Suites: The rooms in The Stables are lighter with locally-sourced furnishings and offer unparalleled views over Hanthana Mountain Range, and their additional privacy makes them ideal for couples or groups of friends travelling together.
Facilities
Adults and children alike will never be bored at W15 Hanthana Estate. A selection of books, board games and a card pack are perfect pastimes for rainy days, and when the sun is shining there is the swimming pool and croquet to take advantage of as well as activities further afield. Meal times are personalised, offering a variety of local and western cuisine, including afternoon high tea; each dish appears more beautifully presented than the last. There is no liquor available, but guests are welcome to bring their own. In each room, there is a bell on the bedside table which can be used to call your personal butler.
