South Point Villa

Introduction

South Point Villa is a three-bedroom villa fronting a pristine stretch of beach near Koggala on the Galle Coast. The garden steps out directly onto a stretch of white sandy beach with its own coral protection that enables safer swimming and snorkelling. Interiors are well furnished with teak and oak floors. Relax on the lawn, have an afternoon siesta in the shade of some mangroves, or dine by candlelight on the wooden-decked terrace. The picture-postcard views, including stilt fisherman on the distant horizon, make this place inspirational for artists and writers alike. The owners also have a neighbouring property: South Point Abbey, a colonial beach house. A connecting door gives direct access, making the two properties ideal for two families travelling together.

Accommodation

Three large a/c bedrooms have comfortable and inviting four-poster beds with overhead canopies fitted tastefully with mosquito nets. The master bedroom has two four-poster beds with a direct sea view. An antique Amirah, a bureau, satellite TV, DVD player, wifi are in all bedrooms wich have ensuite bathrooms with ‘his and her’ washbasins and showers. High chair and baby cot available upon request.

Facilities

The main living area includes a combined sitting and dining room with an Indonesian flourish, and a wooden-decked terrace ideal for alfresco meals. There is a freshwater swimming pool in a side garden with its own ‘Jacuzzi bench’ at one end with views of the sea, perfect for the blood-red sunsets. The grassed frontage is ideal for sunbathing and snoozing. Western dishes Sri Lankan rice and curries and seafood are prepared using local ingredients. Yoga and massages on request; bicycles available. Staff are helpful whilst also sensitive to the need for privacy. A nanny can be organized. There is good snorkelling in unspoilt coral pools just in front of the villa.

Location

South Point is blessed by its position on a mini headland on the outskirts of Koggala. Galle Fort is 20 minutes away. The journey to South Point Villa from Colombo’s International Airport will take approximately 2.5 hours – or eschew the Southern Highway in favour of an air taxi to Koggala.
