3 Sisters

Introduction

3 Sisters, a three-bedroom villa in Matara on Sri Lanka's south coast, is named after the owner's three daughters and is situated on a hillock with gardens at one end and a broad beach stretch in front. This refurbished colonial-period villa has a broad veranda, outdoor spaces for alfresco dining and spacious rooms which open out to the gardens and sea beyond. Interiors are decorated with local art, Dutch period antiques and tasteful modern touches. 3 Sisters has an informal, homely feel and welcomes families with children. The villa can accommodate up to nine guests and is managed by Kulu Safaris, a premier wildlife company that also owns Horathapola in the north-west.

Accommodation

There are three bedrooms: two are located on the ground floor whilst the other is a spacious loft on the upper floor which receives great feedback. Bedrooms are equipped with a/c, overhead fans, four-poster beds fitted with mosquito netting and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.

Poolside Room:  This double bedroom is furnished with a queen-sized bed.

Courtyard Room: A double bedrooms that opens out to a private courtyard.

Loft:  Spacious open-plan suite with sleeping area and lounging space. Spectacular sea views. Furnished with a king-sized bed, two single beds and a roll away bed, writing desk and lounge chairs. Up to five guests can be accommodated in the Loft.

Facilities

There is an indoor living room equipped with a TV and DVD player, board games and Wi-Fi. The veranda is ideal for taking in the sun and ocean breeze. The swimming pool is situated adjacent to the villa, next to a fenced garden which is perfect for children to play in. A doorway leads to the beach which is safe for swimming during the season and is a popular surf point. Sri Lankan cuisine, seafood dishes and BBQs are on offer: discuss your meal preferences with the cook ahead of time. Meals are served on the veranda or outdoors in the garden. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. 3 Sisters is staffed with a cook, housekeeper and gardener.

Why we like it

The private access to the beach down a small flight of steps through a canopy of Pandanus trees keeps things cool during the heat of the day

Location

3 Sisters is a beach villa situated in the coastal town of Matara in the deep south. The secluded beaches here are safe for swimming during the season from December to April. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours via the highway. A daily sea plane service also exists between Hatton in the tea country and Koggala on the south coast and we can book seats at competitive rates.
