Khomba House

Introduction

Khomba House is a beautifully-designed two-bedroom beach villa situated in the north-west Sri Lanka fishing village of Alankuda, away from the main Bar Reef Resort complex. The house is tastefully furnished with Dutch-period antiques, colourful soft furnishings and is ideal for a family or friends travelling together. Khomba House can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests and is located about 200 metres from the boat house, swimming pool and main dining pavilion of the adjoining Bar Reef Resort. Guests staying at Khomba House have access to all facilities at the main resort. Bar Reef Resort is the sister property of Ulpotha, near Anuradhapura, and follows the similar village-based concept of simple eco-friendly accommodation and an informal central dining ambalama – an open-sided pavilion where meals are served in clay pots. The resort is situated along a deserted 2 km stretch of pristine private beach and the seas here are calm and inviting from December to April when thousands of dolphins can be spotted.

Accommodation

There are two ensuite double bedrooms at Khomba House. One bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and the other has two large single beds. Each bedroom has a lounge area with built-in seating that can be converted into two single beds. Three more guests can be accommodated in the main lounge area, which has built-in seating fitted with mosquito netting.

Facilities

Relax in the spacious living/dining area, which opens out to sandy beaches. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and if preferred, a cook will come to the house and prepare meals according to your wishes. Guests are welcome to dine at the Bar Reef Resort, where Sri Lankan cuisine, BBQs, cool drinks and chilled beers are served. Khomba House guests also have access to the 40 metre swimming pool which has a separate shallow area, ideal for children. At the edge of the beach is the boat house – a cabana with thatched roof furnished with lounges – where a roaring bonfire is lit at nights and drinks are served. The boathouse is well-equipped with safety vests and boats to take guests out to sea for whale and dolphin watching excursions.

Khomba House is located in the rural fishing village of Alankuda on the north-west coast. The journey from the Bandaranaike International Airport is about three hours.
