Bougainvillea Retreat

Introduction

Bougainvillea is a peaceful holiday retreat spread across an acre of tropical gardens within the 500-acre estate of the Victoria Golf & Country Resort near Kandy. Bougainvillea Retreat is Danish-owned and offers a relaxing holiday setting with breath-taking views across the Victoria Reservoir and the Kandyan hills. Accommodation is in well-appointed bedrooms set within the Main House or separate cottages immersed in lush green gardens. By day, relax by the pool side or immerse in mind and body wellness through yoga or a spa treatment. The more active might wish to play a round of golf, go bird watching, horseback riding or trekking within the Victoria estate. Bougainvillea Retreat can be booked by the room or as a whole and is ideal even for a special celebration. Children are welcome, but require close parental supervision as there are steep stairways.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in the Main House and separate cottages set amidst landscaped gardens. Rooms are individually decorated and furnished with twin or double beds dressed in fine linen. The rooms have garden or reservoir views. In-room facilities include a/c, Wi-Fi and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. Some of the suites have an iPod dock.

Main House: Located on the top floor of the Main House, there are three bedrooms and a spacious Master Suite. Of the three bedrooms, one has garden views and the other two open out to a balcony with spectacular views of the reservoir and mountains. The Master Suite has two bedrooms both skirted by a balcony from which guests can enjoy the stunning scenery.

Cottages: The five garden rooms are set in three individual cottages. Families may wish to book an entire cottage with two adjoining bedrooms. These bedrooms open out to private veranda with garden and mountain views.

Facilities

Meals at Bougainvillea Retreat are quite special, served by the poolside or indoors in the Main House. Meals are prepared with fresh village vegetables, meats and fish. Fusion Sri Lankan and western cuisine, home-baked breads, pies and cakes and fresh juices are on offer. There is no set menu: discuss your meal preferences ahead of time and the chef will prepare tasty dishes for you. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. Other facilities in the Main House include a comprehensive library, mini-cinema with a range of films to choose from, satellite TV and billiard table. The lounge has a veranda and there is an infinity swimming pool where hours can be spent taking in the scenery. Relaxing massages, body scrub and steam baths are available with prior notice. Bougainvillea Retreat conducts regular yoga retreats with local and foreign instructors that promote holistic wellness through the ancient practice of yoga, meditation, and traditional nutritious meals.
