Introduction
Borderlands’ camp is perched on the banks of the Kelani River near the rafting town of Kitulgala and consists of tents, rustic wooden cabins and chalets built on stilt platforms covered with thatched roofs. The campsite sits amongst untouched wilderness and has spectacular views of the mountains. Rise to the sound of bird call, enjoy an exciting activity on the Kelani and return for a chilled beer in the relaxed Long House which overlooks the river. Borderlands Sri Lanka is a reputable adventure tour company with much experience in conducting outdoor activities across the country. It follows strict safety guidelines and emphasises nature conservation. Borderlands is booked on a full board basis and rates include two activities conducted by Borderlands such as kayaking, rafting, canyoning, mountain biking, abseiling or hiking. Accommodation
Accommodation is in tents, wooden cabins and chalets, which have simple interiors and are equipped with twin beds fitted with mosquito netting, side table and table lamps. Beds can be put together. It should be noted that tents and cabins share bathrooms and h/w showers that are located a short walk away.
Tents: The four tents are set on a stilted platform with a thatched roof which has been built right over the river. Each opens out to a private terrace that looks out on the surrounding mountains. Shared bathrooms.
Cabins: The six rustic cabins are equipped with twin beds fitted with mosquito netting. Two are more spacious and can accommodate up to four guests. Shared bathrooms.
Chalets: These two rustic, timber chalets are built on stilts by the riverside. Spacious and furnished with twin beds. An extra bed can be provided upon request. Attached bathrooms have a w/c, sink, and open-air shower.
Facilities
Guests dine and relax at the Long House which overlooks the river. Sri Lankan, Asian and western cuisine are on offer, as well as chilled beers. It also has a sound system, IPod dock, Wi-Fi and a projector and screen for film nights. There are a range of mountain bikes, kayaks and rafts onsite, and safety equipment which meets international standards. Borderlands also offer team building activities, guided treks to the ancient Belilena cave and bird watching in the nearby Makandawa Rainforest Reserve.
