Introduction

Victoria is a wonderful five-bedroom beach villa nestled beneath swaying coconut palms mere footsteps from the Indian Ocean. This understated five-bedroom villa is near Galle on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Designed by acclaimed Australian architect Bruce Fell-Smith, Victoria’s extensive renovation in 2016 has brought the villa firmly into the modern age whilst sensitively retaining its important sense of history. Staffed by a small team including chef, this charming beach villa, a cherished family escape, presents modern artwork, shabby chic antiques and contemporary soft furnishings.

Accommodation

The villa has five comfortable air conditioned bedrooms; four doubles and one twin. Bedrooms are furnished with whitewashed antique four-poster beds dressed in high thread count linen, and have private bathrooms finished in taupe marble with monsoon showers. The master bedroom is an exceptionally spacious suite with a deeply cushioned built-in window seat that offers beguiling views of the sea. Its sandstone and marble bathroom is particularly special, and features a freestanding tub, twin washbasins and a monsoon shower.

Facilities

There are multiple lounging areas and comfortable soft furnishings offering a blissfully serene setting to relax and unwind, in addition to an air conditioned lounge with a TV and DVD player. The villa has a 12x5m swimming pool with twinkling neon lights set amidst the coconut trees. Due to a reef, swimming in the sea right in front of the villa is not possible but, a short stroll along the golden sands leads you to a secluded beach that is ideal for swimming and snorkelling during the season from December to April. Victoria has a team of staff that includes a cook, two houseboys and two night watchmen. All work together to ensure that guests are well taken care of. The experienced cook has a flair for international cuisine, and can prepare delicious Sri Lankan curries, nutritious salads, warming soups, ocean-fresh fish and seafood dishes with ease. No alcohol is served at the villa, but you are welcome to bring your own or purchase from local liquor shops.

Location

Victoria is in the coastal village of Thalpe just 15 minutes from Galle’s historic Dutch Fort. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take about 2.5 hours. Avoid road travel and hop on board the Air Taxi which lands at Koggala – just 10-minute drive from the villa.
